Life Expectancy

This project was done for CUNY IS608.

Life expectancy is a measure of the average time that humans are expected to live. This data reflects not only natural causes death, but also infant mortality and civil war. Therefore Life expectancy is used for measuring countries' development. This data is based on the year of their birth. Its resourse is The World Bank.

When we look at the graph, we can see that generally life expectancy is increasing across the board. However, the countries that have had civil wars or other kind of disasters are showing big decreases in life expectancy as well as its GDP.

Conclusion

It is hard to say whether life expectancy is related to the GDP with only this data. However, we can see the tendency that two factors have the same direction. Particularly African countries that had civil wars are showing the relationship clearly. Although we didn't do a formal statistical analysis, the relationship between life expectancy and GDP among those countries seems quite clear. Meanwhile, the life expectancy of developed countries like United States grows gradually without showing effects from GDP. In the 1960's, OECD countries already had life expectancy near 70 years.
